Lyndon B. Johnson’s political career began in 1937, when he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as a Democrat. He was labeled LBJ and quickly earned respect as a smart and hardworking legislator, being re-elected five times. After an unsuccessful run for a U.S. Senate seat in 1941, he became the first member of Congress to volunteer for active duty in the military when the United States entered World War II. In 1960, he became Vice President under President John F. Kennedy and after Kennedy's assassination in 1963, he was sworn in as president.
This letter to Howard Peterson on 8"x10.5" letterhead is NOT the standard letterhead but was the correct size used by Lyndon B. Johnson. It has been mounted in a green matboard.
