Description

Field-grey, open collar tailor-made service uniform for an Oberfuhrer of the SS.  Many ascribe these tunics to Waffen SS, but they are more often seen by members of the Allgemeine SS (black tunic-wearing troops) worn during wartime.  Himmler wore one, many concentration camp commandants wore them, as did SD officers, etc.  This is one of the finest quality tunics I have encountered - the photos do not do it justice.  Very high quality, soft doeskin wool tunic with a four-button front, French cuffs, lower slash pockets with scalloped flaps and breast patch pockets that are pleated and scalloped. The collar is piped in a silver-aluminum twist cord and all silver buttons are matching maker marked to Assmann. Collar tabs are the early, pre-1942 style hand-embroidered in silver-aluminum wire over black velvet with thin, silver twist edge piping. The shoulderboards are a matte grey woven cords on white wool backing with an underlay of black.  Two gold pips are centered on each board and the prongs do not protrude through the base of the boards.  Completing the insignia are an old fighterschevron on the right sleeve and a high-quality hand-embroidered aluminum thread officers sleeve eagle on the left sleeve in perfect condition. There are loops for a party badge and two award badges. The interior is lined in a green rayon, and sleeves lined in typical striped material, a tailor tag is attached at the rear neck and a dagger hanger strap/clip is attached with an opening to the inside pocket. The condition is excellent, though there are some small moth holes behind the left hip pocket, middle back and one hole on the left French cuff.
