Description

This is a Nazi Brownshirt worn by an SS Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO), specifically a pre-1934 model. The collar patches display the unit number "49" on the right and a single silver pip on the left, indicating the rank of SS-Unterscharführer in the 49th SS Foot Standarte, located in Braunschweig. The black and white piping along the collar edges is characteristic of the SS brownshirt uniforms from this early period.  Piping matches on the tabs, as does the sewing technique, indicating these are a matching set.  Slightly thicker collar piping is correctly sewn to the collar.  The red armband is the brownshirt type.  3-Place medal bar is present.  Early brownshirts worn prior to the Röhm purge either have no tags, or the earliest SA tag.  This shirt never had a tag, making it correct for an original brownshirt used by SS.  Too often, shirts with post-1934 tags are used, and while possible to be period, are often conversions.  Buttons are the standard leather-covered type, and are unmarked.  Early shoulder board pre-dates RZM tags, and is therefore not tagged.
