This III. Reich Police Tschako was originally made with the police green wool body. After the war, the police also used Tschakos but with a black body. Instead of discarding the green examples, the former III. Reich examples were often re-used by having their green wool removed and painting the Tschako body glossy black. It appears this is one of the converted helmets, judging by the rough finish to the black painted body. A III. Reich police eagle was re-mounted as was the pre-45 cockade. Maker marked C. Pose, Wehrausrustungen, Berlin, size 59, and with leather liner showing use but no damage. An interesting piece of wartime and post-war history.
