Although by far not the most expensive SA Honor piece, this configuration is exceptionally rare, perhaps one of the rarest for reasons that will follow. This is from the early production run of Honor daggers before the addition of a chain in approximately 1936. As such, it began life without the chain and center scabbard fitting. This is known because the leather is applied to the scabbard in two full-size pieces (front and back) and not in 4 sections with a permanently affixed center scabbard band. This one was added after production at some point, and was riveted in place. Also, the blade features a small-oval trademark and does NOT appear to be a ground Röhm dagger blade, but a factory "small oval" type ... rare to find in any SA dagger configuration. My best guess is that this piece was either a factory sample, or obtained before Damascus was used, or possibly for bestowal upon a person for whom the expense of a Damascus blade was not warranted. Whatever the actual purpose of the dagger, I have never seen its equal in over 30 years of collecting and dealing. Condition is outstanding throughout. Grip features no cracks or chips, and is expertly fitted to silvered oak leaf fittings. Fit on Honor dagger grips is strangely, not as good as on the standard dagger counterpart, but this one is far better than most. Eagle is 800 silver (not nickel). Fittings show a matching tone. Leather is original, and suffers only from consistent abrasions and a couple of tiny nicks. Both side seams are faintly evident on each side of the scabbard. FChain is silvered over magnetic base metal as is the SA clip rune. Clip is nickel silver and soldered to the runic device. Screws are undamaged. Lower fitting on scabbard is very slightly loose, and the center scabbard band is also slightly loose, though it is in place enough that it does not slide. Fittings show even silver, with a small bit of the yellow toned brass beneath the side points on the upper scabbard fitting. A tiny bit of leather marring has occurred just above and below the center band, due to the slightly loose center scabbard band. Comes complete with a brown belt hanger.
