Very rare Army Paratrooper Badge in aluminum. This item has been vetted by Thomas Durante via photographs. Condition is outstanding with virtually all finish remaining. Please note the 100% period repair … aluminum badges are quite fragile which is why they were not produced in great quantity.
All German parachute formations eventually came under the command of the Luftwaffe, but the Army originally had paratroops of its own, and for these a Parachutist's Badge was instituted on 15th June 1937. The diving eagle in the center is silver, the rest of the badge is gilt. It was awarded on completion of training, but it was necessary to do at least six jumps a year to retain it. It was worn on, or a little below, the left breast pocket. The gilt area shows some wear and the reverse side of the eagle is stamped with "C.E. Juncker Berlin SW".
