Description
Dress visor cap based on the French kepi as worn for Parade Dress by a Lt. Colonel in the Imperial Japanese Army. The cap is constructed of a very fine quality dark blue wool with black leather visor and chin-strap. Around the center of the cap are 5 rows of gilt soutache, and there is a gilt soutache star on the top of the cap. Gilt rising sun insignia is mounted on the cap's front. The off-white lining shows much wear and use, as does the sweatband. One end of the sweatband stitching has come loose as can be seen in the photos. The cap appears to date from pre WWII, possibly WWI period or before. Overall shows age but is in sound condition.
