Royal Navy Captain's cocked hat's tin case is named to Captain J. Powell.  There were two officers with the same name and initial (James Powell and John Trevor Powell) whose hat and epaulettes these could be. The cocked hat and case are maker marked "Gillet and Hasell" at 2 New Burlington Street, London. The company, with this name combination and address, were located here between 1868 and 1954. The hat is in fine condition, with intact gilt bullion and no damage. The lining is of off-white silk, maker marked, and with a leather sweatband. Some yellowing from use of the lining. The epaulettes feature an anchor and King's crown, and are marked 'left' and 'right'. The bullion is also in fine condition with no damage. An impressive set that would be very rewarding to research!
