Rare set of matched large and small Gold Party Badges complete with their original document. The membership number is 37455. The large badge is about 30.5mm and retains nearly all of its orignal fire gilt finish. There is no chipping or cracking to the enamel. On one leg of the swastika there may be a surface abrasion which is tiny and does not affect the appearance in hand. The reverse is marked 'Ges. Gesch.' and the membership number. The original pin and Deschler marked pin plate are intact. Excellent condition. The 25mm badge is also in excellent condition with nearly all of its factoy fire gilt finish retained. The enamel is undamaged. The reverse shows that the pin and pin plate may have detached and were resoldered to the back, albeit upside down. The pins and pin-plates of the Gold Party Badges were notoriously fragile considering the weight of the badges, and broken pins and lost badges were common.
The award document had to be carried in the Party membershiip book whenever the badge was worn as it served as a certification of permission to wear the award. It features a color facsimile of the Gold Party Badge and indicates that 'Herrn Karl Titgemeyer' of Herford was awarded the badge on 12. December 1933. The document is hand signed by the Party Treasurer, Schwarz. It is in outstanding condition showing only minimal age and handling.
As far as we know, Karl Titgemeyer has not been researched and it would be interesting to know whether more information might be found about him. Matched sets of Gold Party Badges are difficult to find, and sets that are complete with their original matching document are rare.
