Description

Black lacquered leather helmet with fire gilt brass trim. Helmet body has very fine form. Exterior lacquer is in excellent condition with no lacquer loss. No extra holes in helmet body. Officer style Prussian Reserve eagle without banner with an oxidized silver Skull and Cross Bones on the breast of the eagle. On the tail of the eagle is a small silver reserve cross on which is the banner “Mit Gott fur Furst und Vaterland”. Fire gilded Officer style spike base that is held to body with 4 stars. On top of the spike base is an elongated plume trichter holding a full black Yak hair parade plume.  Interior of helmet has Officer style sweat leather and silk headliner in near excellent condition. Flat gilded chinscales on rosettes. Two-Piece Reichs and blue and gold Braunschweig Officer cockades. Helmet has not been cleaned or polished.   Very rare Regiment.

NOTE TO BIDDERS: The Braunschweig helmet with the Skull device, due to its appeal, is the most reproduced helmet plate of post-WWI Germany. Especially the reserve officer helmet of this regiment.  The consigner purchased this helmet in the late 1960’s. It was likely produced between 1910 and 1914, although the C.C Juncker Catalogue of 1934 shows that these type helmets were still available for sale. This style was commonly used by members of Veteran Organizations in the 1930’s.  The skull is soldered to the Eagle at 4 points and cannot be removed.  The eagle is NOT an “FR’ type reserve eagle.
