This is an otherwise factory bayonet that is not uncommon. Features a well-preserved blade featuring one of the standard remembrance scenes. The unique part about this bayonet is that the "frosted" background to the etch has been been blued. Also, the high points have remnant of gold plated finish. Without the gold finish (which is mostly gone) I would be suspicious that this deluxe treatment was done post-war. However, the expertise with which the background was blued, plus the "mostly gone" wear to the gold finish, speaks well to the authenticity of this piece such that I am comfortable offering it as original. I can't say that it was factory adorned with the blue and gold, but it is period. Scabbard retain full paint with only minor wear. Note the buffer pad "slides" which is a key sign of an original bayonet - the post-war etched pieces have the buffer pad "pinned" under the bayonet shoulders. I am starting this piece artificially low to encourage bidding and to set the bar "low" so bidders can determine a fair market value.
