Description

This is a pair of commemorative beer steins used in Bavaria, Germany. The steins feature portraits of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Each stein displays the blue and white Bavarian lozenge pattern with crowned golden lions. They are traditional German stoneware with pewter lids. The steins were produced to honor King Ludwig II, a key historical figure in 19th-century Bavaria. Not sure of the vintage, but based upon materials they appear to be interwar (WW1 and WW2) construction.  Ludwig II was the "mad king" for his extravagant spending.
