Description

1914 Iron Cross 1st Class produced by "K.M.S.T.", one of the most desirable and unique makers.  Double '800' marked on the reverse of the locking device and 'KMST' and 'DRGM' on the cross reverse as well, the attachment device is actually a precision made slide-back system with a spring clip.  One of the most ornate versions of the cross I have encountered.  The elaborate attachment design was intended for military forces using breastplate armor--heavy artillery, Curassiers, Jäger zu Pferde, etc., where a pinback cross would not be practical.  This is an exceptionally high quality cross with an innovative design - no wonder it is "DRGM" marked (patent protected).
