Directly out of the woodwork recently in "as found" condition. This is a Technische Nothilfe (Technical Emergency Service) officer's dagger from Nazi Germany. The dagger features a distinctive pommel cap with a cogwheel emblem, symbolizing industrial and technical service, and a crossguard bearing an eagle clutching a swastika above a gearwheel insignia. The blade is etched with the Eickhorn trademark and the eagle motif, found on these daggers exclusively. The grip is orange phenolic plastic, accompanied by a bayonet style portepee. Technische Nothilfe daggers were issued to officers of this paramilitary organization, which operated from the late 1920s through World War II to provide technical and emergency support in civil defense and infrastructure protection. The dagger served as a symbol of rank and professional affiliation within the organization. Condition is outstanding, with minor peppering rust on an otherwise unpolished blade with factory grain. Scabbard is ORIGINAL black, with no "touch up" common with most daggers of this type that have been through the collecting mill. Numbers match - 2700 etched on the blade, and stamped on the scabbard throat. Knot is original to the piece, and was likely placed on the dagger by the original officer who opted for something that was a very close resemblance to the knots found on the NCO Hewer. No dents to scabbard, screws unturned, point and edge are factory sharp.
