A near-mint SA Service Dagger produced by the Ernst Pack & Sohn firm, featuring a fully intact Ernst Röhm dedication on the reverse of the blade. The inscription remains crisp and well-defined, showing minimal wear and retaining strong factory "cross grain" polish. Virtually no wear or age to the blade other than very light runner marks. Handle in outstanding condition, scabbard retains at least 50% of factory protective lacquer over the brown-anodized scabbard.
Dagger fit on an SA dagger by EP&S is very unique, given the "flat" curvature of the lower-cross guard, scabbard throat, and blade shoulders. This element of production makes it very difficult to "Frankenstein" an upgrade to a dagger like this, due to the inability to swap parts with all but ONE manufacturer (I forget which manufacturer that is). All reproduction "Röhm" blades do not have the correct curvature, and Crossguards and scabbard throats are also unique and almost impossible to "fit" together. It also brings difficulty to the lower grip area as well, for the same reason. In addition, the scabbard fittings have a very unique "flat" edge to the side points ... another feature only found on daggers made by this company. The long and short of it is, Röhm daggers by this manufacturer are the safest bet when purchasing a Röhm dagger for a collection. As you can see, this dagger fits together beautifully.
Examples with the complete Röhm inscription are notably scarce, as most were ordered ground off after the 1934 purge known as the “Night of the Long Knives,” when the SA leadership—including Röhm—was eliminated. Because of that directive, surviving blades that escaped alteration are significantly rarer than the standard SA daggers. The Eickhorn maker mark is sharp, and the fittings, grip, and scabbard show only light handling consistent with excellent preservation. Overall, this piece stands out as a high-grade, untouched example of an early-pattern SA dagger with a historically consequential inscription, offered strictly as a collectible artifact.
Please note: For comparison purposes, I have uploaded some additional photos showing a comparison of fittings between this dagger and a KNOWN original that has been in the hobby since the 1970s (personally owned by me, and given to me by my neighbor as a child - it's the dagger that got me started in this field). I have also provided photos of the "Ernst Röhm" portion of the etching on the reverse. You will see that the parts are consistent, and the etch is identical (realizing, of course, that within the fingerprint of the template, there exist slight thickness and application variation from signature to signature. The spacing, slant of the lettering, slope, etc - is all identical.
