Description

This wool and cotton multi-piece construction specimen surfaced in the 1990s in a Las Vegas hotel buy, according to the previous owner, and was retained by him since the time he purchased it from the motel buyer.  While the majority of SS trumpet banners (this one included) are somewhat speculative with respect to authenticity due to the value and ease of construction by after-war fakers, this example bears no red flags.  This specimen does NOT flouresce under blacklight, is expertly constructed, exhibits typical wartime "fringe" (most reproductions use cheaper, thinner fringe sourced from various modern flags).  Certainly, spending $50K for a trumpet banner like the example sold recently in the Dave Delich auction brings certainty, it also carries the price which is easily 10x the expected hammer price of this model.  I usually shy away from speculative purchases and offerings, but for this example, I could not find anything suspicious about it.  If this IS a divisional trumpet banner from the 7th SS Volunteer Mountain Division, it's quite a find!  At minimum, it looks great as a collection enhancement.  Starting bid is EXTREMELY low.
