Description

Grouping of 'Sweetheart' items (also called Trench Art) dating from WWI to the 1970s. The miniature caps were often used as ash trays or powder compacts by girlfriends and wives. First is a British miniature cap with a collar badge "Egypt/ Royal Lincolnshire Regiment" under a sphinx mounted on the top, made from a 1977 dated 76mm shell casing. Second is a WWI US Army enlisted/NCO miniature cap made from a German artillery shell dated October 1917, . Third is a bomb with fins and fin protecting ring, for unknown use. Fourth is an artillery shell, the top of which unscrews to reveal a cigarette lighter. Fifth is a miniature US Army officer cap made from a 1918 dated French shell, possibly for the 37mm Hotchkiss, maker Parc d'Artillery de Paris. All of the items show age but no noticeable damage.
